Since ancient times, letters have been used to exchange news from one place to another. There is a legend that pigeons, hawks, and horses were used to exchange news and information especially in the court of kings. It seems to be through the post office.Postal service refers to the act of exchanging ordinary letters. Postal service means a system of sending letters and packages from one place to another. Postal service is the delivery of personal and all other types of letters, materials except those prohibited by law (newspapers, books, magazines, literary materials and other commercial materials) from one place in the world to another. In the world, the history of the establishment of the General Post Office by the then King Charles II of Britain in 1660 is found. Although the postal service to exchange news, information and news through letters in Nepal started in the ancient times, it was systematically established by the then Rana Prime Minister Ranodip Singh. It started with the Nepal Post Office established in 1935. Since Nepal Postal Service is a member of World Postal Union and Asia and Pacific Regional Postal Union in 1974, it has been operating the postal service following the postal laws of Nepal as well as the international standards, guidelines, agreements, understandings and conventions and the postal systems of the World Postal Union.

 

There are 7 district post offices, 128 municipal post offices and 00 additional post offices under this Directorate of Posts, Dhanusha under the Department of Postal Services under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

 

Main Functions of Directorate of Posts

The main task of this directorate is to ensure prompt and reliable access to letters to the Nepali people based on prevailing laws and international treaties. In addition to this, other tasks of this directorate are as follows.

  • Delivering letters and receipts to the respective recipients on time and making necessary arrangements,
  • Registering letters and deeds
  • Sale and distribution of postage stamps,
  • Providing express (EMS) service,
  • Regular monitoring and supervision of subordinate bodies,
  • Radio F.M. and to renew the licenses of individuals,
  • For public welfare advertisements, newspapers and F.M. Monitoring and payment of
  • Necessary coordination and cooperation between postal directorates,
  • Providing other services as per the instructions of the Postal Service Department,
